Patience is a Virtue…

…and mine was rewarded this morning. We had been waiting since Wednesday for our grocery funds to be replenished. I called The Agency Wednesday afternoon, got to talk to someone, and was told that my paperwork had been received but not processed. The person I spoke to said that she would send it over for processing, but it might take 24 hours or so to enter the system. (Sigh) Okay, fine, thank you.

Thursday came and went with no change in our account balance, which was just shy of $4.

This morning I was resigned to getting back on the phone with The Agency, but I called to check the account balance first, just to be sure. What do you think I heard? (Imagine the generic female robo-voice saying this part) “Your…account…balance…is… six-hundred-and-forty-three-dollars-and-“CLICK!! That was all I needed.  Not only did we get renewed, we got a bump of $120 per month! that works out to an extra 74 cents per person, per day. Really. Follow me here:

$522 (our old balance)/4.3 (ave.weeks per month)  = $121 per week
$121 per week/5 people = $24 per person per week
$24/7 = $3.45 per person per day

$640 (our new balance)/4.3 = $149 per week
$149/5 =$30 (rounded up slightly) p.p.p.w.
$30/7 = $4.29 p.p.p.d.

And $4.29 – $3.45 = $0.74.

It may not sound like much, but the cumulative effect is substantial, especially considering we’ve either gone over budget or pushed right up against it every month lately. A better way to look at it is $28 per week. That’s a usable amount. So guess what My Dear Wife and I are doing this afternoon? If you guessed Big Shopping Trip, count yourself a winner.
