November Review: Under Budget!

As I mentioned previously, we came in well under budget for the month of November, which means we have even more for December since any surplus in our account gets carried over. Obviously, the increase in our food stamp allotment after our recertification had much to do with it. We spent $597.82, including our “bonus buy” of $22, putting us well over the $522 of the previous month. Still, that was (obviously) below the ceiling of $640, so I’m glad to see that we didn’t just ramp up our spending to match our budget.

I couldn’t help but notice how much we spent at Safeway compared to any other store; twice as much as at WinCo and nearly four times as much as at The Co-Op. I attribute much of that to a combination of winter weather and car trouble. We’ve probably had a foot of snow already, and the side streets are not very well-cleared, which makes biking a dicey venture. The van needs to go to the dealer for further diagnosis, and the wagon is just parked in the backyard. So, we’ve had to make some logistical adjustments, and with Safeway just over a mile down the road, it’s become our default shopping location. There again is the irony of the  store nearby not being a true “local” company.
