The Perils of Urban Poultry

Why was I not surprised to discover that this story:  Chicken Vanishes, Heartbreak Ensues happened in Brooklyn? It’s a quintessential city tale. We’ve thought about keeping chickens; The Youngest One would love it. I wrote to the city to see if it was legal, but never heard back. Maybe a follow-up is in order, especially if the birds can bring a neighborhood together as in this case.

    Where are you located?
It’s legal to keep chickens in the city of Spokane. You can have one chicken for every 2000 square feet of property. Most lots accomodate 3-4 chickens.

Last I heard, Spokane Valley does not allow chickens, but a group of local people are working to change that.

Spokane County does not allow chickens in urban areas, but does allow them in rural areas. Unfortunately, I don’t know the specifics on what that means.
